About
Blackskye Community GMRS (BSC-GMRS) is a project started in early 2025 to spread awareness of the General Mobile Radio Service in the Waynesboro, PA area, and to promote its utility in personal and community emergency preparedness. Blackskye Community GMRS is a volunteer endeavor with no outside financial support. All radio equipment, website, and maintenance are provided by private parties as a community service.

Goals of Blackskye Community GMRS
Promote the use of the General Mobile Radio service in Waynesboro, PA and surrounding communities.
Create a trusted community of licensed users who share a common interest in radio communication and emergency preparedness.
Improve individual radio communication skills through enablement and practice.
Promote the importance of reliable communication in an individuals emergency preparedness planning.
To maintain a respectful and inclusive atmosphere, and abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to GMRS in FCC Regulations 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart E.
A Personal Note
Hi, I'm Derek! The mind behind Blackskye Community GMRS.
I’m a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and have spent three decades in the Emergency Services field. During my tenure, I’ve served as an EMT, paramedic, firefighter, and police dispatcher. Currently, I work as a paramedic in the Waynesboro and Chambersburg areas. Naturally, emergency preparedness and radio communication have become second nature, which influenced development of this project.
In addition to GMRS, I'm a licensed General class amateur radio operator. It is my hope that Blackskye Community GMRS evolves into a sizable and enjoyable community for all.
